It's a story as old as time...
girl meets boy.
girl dates other boys.
boy likes girl.
girl becomes friends with boy.
boy goes to West Point.
boy admits feelings for girl.
girl admits feelings for boy.
turns out they're pretty, super similar!!!
girl meets photographer friend (Yay, that's me!)
girl tells photographer friend her story and an arrangement is made for couple photos when boy comes home from West Point in June.
BOOM. IT'S JUNE!
⤵ BELOW!
So by now you're like, "cool Mary. These are awesome photos, Julian and Olivia look amazing, yada yada yada, so what? What's with the title? What set this session apart?"
Something I didn't anticipate, but I've come to appreciate...
You see, in this particular session, I was let into a whole new world of joy and love between Julian and Olivia. There were inside jokes, soft smiles, and loud laughter appreciation with eye twinkles that had me melting, the whole shebang.
But more then just the ooey-gooey, super cute stuff, J & O seamlessly let everyone around them (this instance being myself and another photographer --> emily dekoster, <3 her! ) into their world.
Now, love is special. No question. There are about 20 industries built on that. Everyone's love is different but I think in general, love is about people pursuing "their person."
People want their Derek and Meredith love. Authentic love. (Disregard the direct comparison, I know D & M and their love isn't real, but you hopefully know what I'm getting at!!)
I'm hazarding a guess people want someone who will have their backs no matter what. Someone who will still be there when the Cubs lost and so they last-minute went on a day long backpacking trip without warning, just to cope or when they're in their sweatpants, chilling with no makeup on, etc, whatever. *points if you get the reference! People want authentic love.
But the authentic, real truth is that nothing is perfect or lasts forever. There is no perfect person for each one of us out there, but good news, there is hard work, commitment and let's be real, attraction (because, duh!). that's what love is.
We're flawed people on a flawed earth, but there are perfect moments and I think having a relationship with a person that so dramatically, positively affects the spirits of those you surround is truly a special blessing.
It was a random day in late June. It had just rained so the grounds were muddy. the cherries were in-season but hiding, and yet, among some orchard trees stood a young couple and two girls bouncing around them with cameras. The stories were hilarious, the smiles absolutely contagious, and their laughter was truly endless.
Xo,
Mary
