Last week I agreed to shoot a couple models I've followed on Instagram. We ended up going to Provin' Trails park in Grand Rapids because I'd just gone there the week before and fell in love with the place! Even though the woods were freezing, both girls absolutely killeddddd. There were so many different contrasting looks with the rough, tough, rainy trees it was awesome.
Out of camera, in computer, editing those contrasting looks got a little intimidating. I was trained by natural-light photographers and as gorgeous as the dark, moody photos were, they felt way over my head! That's how later in the week, I ended up in a Starbucks with Emily, of Emily Dekoster Photography, going over editing styles. Let me tell you, helpful as Youtube is, there is no way I would have learned all that stuff without her! She helped me so much and I'm endlessly grateful for her and what she taught me!
(find her work at https://emilydekoster.weebly.com).
I believe in working with people and this shoot was an amazing reminder of the benefit of collaborations! I didn't start the shoot with a mindset of learning, but I learned anyway and all I feel is gratitude for it...
End Game result is below, what do you think?!
Much love,
